Pat and Monica at White Earth picnic. 7/22
Monica and Deanna had a tabling event at the Elder
Community Picnic on July 10 at White Earth. We had about 150 people
stop by our table and we answered questions primarily about the upcoming
Primary election. Many were from the reservation and surrounding area
but some were tribal members from the Twin Cities. Several of the TC
people said “we know your people (LWV) and they have helped us with
voting information “. I believe they referred to the South Minneapolis area. I
would say about 95-98% of the people we talked to were registered to
vote, many had mail in ballots and some had sent them already. The
enthusiasm and energy was most impressive.
Our League members love to talk about voting and helping people get their questions answered. The best part is the feedback the next time our teams see people: Two people mentioned that they got their 18 year old daughters to register to vote. It was so easy to use the QR codes.
Other people are just hearing that people with felony convictions can vote as long as they are not physically in prison. One woman had not voted since her felony over 26 years ago. She was excited that she could vote this year.
Thank you to Monica and your team for showing up on this hot summer afternoons.
